The NHS in Scotland is investing considerably in many different and highly skilled health professionals to advise and treat you, often quicker and easier than your GP can. This gives faster access to the GP for those that have more complex problems.  For example your local pharmacist can treat urine infections and impetigo as well as most minor ailments, usually free of charge and without an appointment. Similarly Opticians are now your first point of contact for most eye problems.
